01

Getting started

Learn what Inflict.io offers and where to begin.

What is Inflict.io?

Inflict.io provides browser tools and original content for tabletop roleplaying games.

The site includes the Dread Scenario Manager, Dread VTT, Tension timer, published stories, customer accounts, subscriptions, and a store.

Where can I find the Dread tools?

Open the Dread tools page for the Scenario Manager and Tension timer.

Open an owned scenario in the Scenario Manager to start its VTT room.

Which browsers and devices should I use?

Use a current browser with JavaScript enabled. The site adapts to phones, tablets, laptops, and desktop screens.

A laptop or desktop gives hosts more room for scenario editing, video controls, decks, and chat.

Browser media support varies by device. Test your microphone and camera before a live session.

Does Inflict.io have a mobile app?

Inflict.io runs in your web browser. You do not need a separate mobile app.

Your browser can add the site to a home screen when that feature is available.

How do I contact Inflict.io?

Send every request to support@inflict.io.

This address handles product help, accounts, billing, orders, safety, privacy, security, copyright, and legal correspondence.

Reply to your existing email thread when you add information. This keeps the full request together.

What should I include in a support request?
  • Describe what you expected and what happened.
  • Include the page address, date, time, browser, and device.
  • Copy the exact error text or attach a clear screenshot.
  • Include your order number for store or billing questions.

Never send a password, MFA code, full card number, private invitation password, or secret account token.

02

Accounts and sign-in

Manage access, security, profiles, and connected identities.

How do I create an account or sign in?

Open the account control in the site header. Choose email, Google, or Steam when those options appear.

Use the same identity for later visits. A different identity can create a separate account group.

How does account security work?

Email accounts use verification and can require authenticator-app MFA. You can add passkeys from Account home.

A verified passkey can satisfy the Inflict.io MFA step. Google and Steam protect their own sign-in flows.

I cannot sign in. What should I do?
  1. Confirm that you selected the identity used when you registered.
  2. Use the password recovery link for an email account.
  3. Check spam and filtered folders for verification messages.
  4. Try another registered passkey or authenticator when available.

Email support@inflict.io if access still fails.

How do I connect my Shopify store account?

Open Account home and select Connect Shopify.

Complete the Shopify sign-in. This link lets Inflict.io verify orders and Survivor Tier access.

Steam users must use this connection step. Never share a Shopify verification code with support.

Why do linked identities matter?

Verified email, Google, and Shopify identities can share one account group when their normalized email matches.

The group shares scenarios, limits, status, and subscription access. Steam joins the group only after an explicit Shopify connection.

Contact support before creating more accounts when your data appears under another sign-in method.

How do I update my profile or email?

Use Profile for supported customer details and addresses.

Shopify may require email verification. Contact support@inflict.io when an email change affects linked access.

My account is suspended or banned. What can I do?

Email support@inflict.io from the address connected to the account.

State the account identity, notice date, and reason for your appeal. Include relevant facts without sending private credentials.

Do not create another account to bypass a restriction. That action can cause further enforcement.

03

Scenario Manager

Prepare Dread scenarios, players, characters, and questionnaires.

How do I create a scenario?

Open the Scenario Manager, sign in, and select the new scenario action.

Add a title, description, private host notes, character questionnaires, and the player selection method.

Free Tier supports three hosted scenarios. Survivor Tier removes the hosted scenario limit.

How do characters and questionnaires work?

Create a character draft inside a scenario. Add its description and up to 13 questions.

Publish the character when it is ready for assignment or player selection.

Free Tier supports six characters in each hosted scenario. Survivor Tier removes that limit.

How do email invitations work?

The host sends an invitation to a player email address. The player opens the unique invitation link and signs in.

The signed-in email must match the invitation. Ask the host to cancel and resend an invitation sent to the wrong address.

How do protected sign-up links work?

A host can share a protected sign-up link and password instead of inviting one email address.

A player enters the password and requests access. The host must approve that request before the player joins.

Keep the link and password inside the intended group.

Who chooses each character?

The host chooses one of two methods for each scenario.

  • Players can claim an available published character.
  • The host can assign every published character.

A player cannot answer until the required character assignment is ready.

Can I change questionnaire answers?

Saved drafts stay private while you work. Review every response before you submit the questionnaire.

Submitted answers are final. Contact the scenario host if you submitted the wrong information.

How do session schedules and reminders work?

The host can set the next session date and time in the scenario.

Joined players can receive a reminder about 15 minutes before the scheduled session.

Confirm your device time zone when a displayed time looks wrong.

Can I clone, export, or print a scenario?

Hosts can clone a scenario and its character definitions. Player assignments, saved drafts, and answers are not copied.

Use export for a portable JSON copy. Use print for a readable paper or PDF copy.

Review imported content before using it with players.

What becomes public in a character template?

Survivor Tier hosts can publish character templates for other users to find and import.

The character name, description, tags, and questions become public. Assignments, player identities, drafts, and answers never become part of the template.

Only publish content that you may share. Report prohibited content to support@inflict.io.

04

Dread VTT

Run browser sessions with media, chat, cards, and tension tools.

How do I open or join a VTT room?

A host opens an owned scenario in Scenario Manager and starts its Dread Room.

A player must join that scenario first. The player then uses the room link while signed in with the approved account.

How do I enable my microphone and camera?
  1. Allow camera and microphone access when the browser asks.
  2. Select the correct devices in the room lobby.
  3. Check the microphone level and video preview.
  4. Join the room after the preview works.

You can join without one or both devices when the session allows it.

My microphone or camera does not work. What should I check?
  1. Open the browser permission menu for Inflict.io.
  2. Allow the device and select it again.
  3. Close another app that may be using the device.
  4. Leave the room, reload the page, and rejoin.

Ask the host whether your microphone or camera is locked in the room controls.

Why does the VTT keep disconnecting?
  1. Reload the room and use the latest invitation link.
  2. Confirm that the correct account joined the scenario.
  3. Disable a VPN or blocking extension for one test.
  4. Try another network when a firewall blocks browser media.

Send support the room error text and time. Do not send the private invitation password.

What can the VTT host control?

The host controls invitations, shared decks, and session settings.

The host can mute participants and lock their microphone or camera. Participants still control browser device permission.

Hosts should remove access when a player no longer has permission to join.

What can I share in VTT chat?

Chat messages can contain up to 600 characters. The room also accepts PNG, JPEG, GIF, WebP, and AVIF images.

Only share content that every participant may receive. Local chat data can disappear after browser data is cleared.

How do shared decks and pulls work?

The host configures the shared deck and controls when a player may pull.

Room events show successful pulls, deaths, and special cards to participants. The host should explain any custom table rules first.

What is Heroic Sacrifice?

Heroic Sacrifice is a special Dread Room outcome that lets a character make a final decisive action.

The room records the result for the live session. The group decides how it affects the story.

What is Retension?

Retension gives the room a timed pull challenge after the story loses tension.

The host sets the duration and target pulls. The host can start, pause, and reset the challenge.

Where are custom soundboard and music files stored?

Custom sound effects stay in local browser storage. Music stays in the host browser tab.

The host browser mixes music into the live room audio. Inflict.io does not upload or store those custom audio files.

Clearing site data removes locally saved sound effects.

How do video backgrounds work?

Choose no effect, background blur, or a local background image in the camera controls.

Custom backgrounds accept PNG, JPEG, WebP, or AVIF images smaller than 10 MB.

Some devices cannot process background effects. Use no effect when video performance becomes unstable.

How many people can join a VTT room?

Free Tier supports six VTT player slots plus the host in each hosted scenario.

Survivor Tier supports all 12 VTT player slots plus the host. The host does not use a player slot.

Does the VTT record my session?

The VTT does not provide a session recording feature.

Get every required consent before using external recording, streaming, or transcription software.

Review the VTT terms before recording or redistributing a session.

05

Tension and stories

Use the timer and explore Inflict.io scenarios and events.

How does the Tension timer work?

Open the Tension tool. Set the total session time and current tension level.

Start, pause, or stop the timer as the game changes. The calculation view explains the current timing.

Where can I find published Inflict.io scenarios?

Open the expanded site footer and choose a title under Scenarios.

Published titles include 404: Love Not Found, Engage, We, Graveyard Shift, Terminal, and The Seventh Astronaut.

A published scenario does not open. What should I do?

Reload the page and select the scenario again. Allow JavaScript for Inflict.io.

Try opening the link in a new tab when a browser blocks an overlay or navigation action.

Where can I find convention information?

Visit the convention page for published Inflict.io event information.

Official convention schedules and ticket rules can also apply. Check the event organizer before travel.

06

Store and orders

Get help with products, checkout, payments, and fulfillment.

How do I buy something from the store?

Browse the catalog, open a product, choose its available options, and add it to the cart.

Review the cart before checkout. Shopify shows the final price, taxes, shipping, and billing schedule before payment.

Which payment methods can I use?

Checkout shows the payment methods available for your order, device, and region.

Shopify and its payment providers process complete payment details. Inflict.io does not receive your complete card number.

Contact your payment provider when a valid method is declined without an Inflict.io error.

Where can I check my order status?

Open Orders after you sign in. The page shows order and fulfillment information available from Shopify.

Use the order status link when one appears. Check the confirmation email for the same order number.

How can I tell whether a product is physical or digital?

Read the product description and checkout details before purchase. Physical products show delivery requirements when shipping applies.

Survivor Tier is a digital subscription. It does not include a physical shipment.

My order is missing, damaged, or incorrect. What should I send?

Email support@inflict.io with the order number and a clear description.

For physical goods, include photos of the item, packaging, shipping label, and damage when available.

Do not email full payment card details.

Can I return an item or request a refund?

Email support@inflict.io with the order number, product, and reason.

The product page, written offer, Terms of Service, and mandatory law determine eligibility.

Do not ship a return until support provides instructions.

Why does my discount code not work?

Check the spelling, expiration date, eligible products, region, and minimum purchase.

Some promotions cannot combine with another offer. Send support the code and cart details if the stated terms appear satisfied.

I do not recognize a store charge. What should I do?

Check your order history, subscription renewal date, household purchases, and receipt email first.

Then email support@inflict.io with the charge date, amount, and last four card digits.

Contact the payment provider promptly if you believe the payment method is compromised.

07

Subscriptions

Understand tier limits, renewals, billing controls, and access.

What is the difference between Free Tier and Survivor Tier?
  • Free Tier includes three hosted scenarios and three joined scenarios.
  • Free Tier includes six characters and six VTT player slots per hosted scenario.
  • Survivor Tier removes hosted, joined, and per-scenario character limits.
  • Survivor Tier includes 12 VTT player slots plus the host.
  • Survivor Tier can publish public character templates.

Open Subscriptions for the current comparison and purchase options.

How do I start or upgrade to Survivor Tier?

Open Subscriptions and choose the monthly or annual Survivor Tier offer.

Complete checkout with the store account that you want to connect. Return to the account page after payment.

Does Survivor Tier renew automatically, and how do I cancel?

A paid subscription renews on its monthly or annual schedule until you cancel.

Open Subscriptions, find the active contract, and select the cancellation action.

Cancellation stops future renewals. Access normally continues through the paid billing period.

Can I pause and resume a subscription?

Available subscription controls appear on the Subscriptions page.

Select pause for an eligible active contract. Select resume when you want eligible billing and access to continue.

The page shows the contract status returned by Shopify.

Can I skip a billing cycle or update my payment method?

The account portal shows skip or unskip controls when the active contract supports them.

Select Update payment method to open the secure Shopify payment flow.

Shopify collects the payment details. Inflict.io does not receive your complete card number.

I paid for Survivor Tier, but my account still shows Free Tier.
  1. Open Account home and connect the Shopify account used at checkout.
  2. Return to Subscriptions and refresh the page.
  3. Confirm that Shopify shows the contract as active.

If access is still missing, email support with the order number and both account email addresses.

What happens to my content after a downgrade?

A tier change does not disable existing scenarios, characters, or templates.

Creation and publishing can stop while account use exceeds a Free Tier limit.

Creation resumes after use returns within the limit or Survivor Tier returns.

Can I get a subscription refund or change billing plans?

Email support@inflict.io with the order number and requested change.

Unused time is not prorated unless law or a written offer requires it. Review the subscription terms.

Support will confirm available options for the active Shopify contract.

Technical help and safety

Troubleshoot carefully and report harmful or unsafe activity.

What should I try first when a page does not work?
  1. Save any draft that you can still access.
  2. Reload the page once.
  3. Update the browser and confirm that JavaScript is enabled.
  4. Disable a blocking extension or VPN for one test.
  5. Try a private window or another current browser.

Copy the exact error before you close the page.

Should I clear cookies or site data?

Use this step only after simpler checks fail. Sign out first when possible.

Clearing site data can remove local soundboard files, camera backgrounds, cached chat attachments, and saved browser preferences.

Export or copy anything important before you clear data.

How do I report a bug or service problem?

Email support@inflict.io with the page address, time, browser, device, and exact error.

Explain the last action before the problem. Add a screenshot when it does not expose private information.

Send one request, then reply to that thread with updates.

How do I report abuse or prohibited content?

Email support@inflict.io with the subject Safety and Abuse Report.

Identify the account, scenario, template, order, or page. Describe the conduct and include relevant dates and evidence.

Do not retaliate, threaten another person, or publish their private information.

What can happen after an abuse report?

Inflict.io can investigate, preserve evidence, remove content, limit features, suspend access, or permanently ban an account.

The action depends on the facts, risk, history, and applicable law. Inflict.io may contact affected users when appropriate.

A banned person must not create or use another account to evade the ban.

How do I appeal a moderation decision or ban?

Email support@inflict.io from the account address.

Identify the decision, notice date, and specific reason for review. Include new facts or explain a clear error.

Repeated or abusive appeals can be closed without another response.

I think someone accessed my account. What should I do?
  1. Reset the password for the affected identity.
  2. Review its MFA methods, passkeys, and recovery information.
  3. Secure the connected email, Google, Steam, or Shopify account.
  4. Email support with the time and signs of unauthorized access.

Never send support a password or verification code.

Where can I find privacy information and controls?

Read the Privacy Policy for collection, use, retention, and request information.

Inflict.io honors enabled Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control signals for Inflict-owned optional tracking.

Send a privacy request to support@inflict.io.

How do I report a copyright or trademark concern?

Email support@inflict.io.

Identify the protected work, the disputed material, its location, your contact details, and your authority to report it.

Include the statements and signature required by applicable law.

How do I report a security issue?

Email support@inflict.io with the subject Security Report.

Describe the affected page, impact, safe reproduction steps, and your contact information.

Do not access other users' data, disrupt service, or publish an unresolved vulnerability.

What should I do about an immediate threat or emergency?

Contact local emergency services when someone faces immediate physical danger.

Inflict.io support is not an emergency or crisis service. You can also send a separate safety report for platform review.
